Brian Eno – Drums Between the Bells Album
During the 1980′s there was a space where contemporary art and music may overlap: where the border is sometimes almost non-existent. Wim Wenders, Derek Jarman, Peter Greenaway, Pulsed-prone, Arthur Russell, Laurie Anderson proudly displayed a critical and art-house credentials. Overall principle is that the art of resistance, challenging the current culture of King Canute to advance into.
The 90′s saw the erosion of this space. Music became preoccupied with himself. As digital distribution explode, cataloging system called for some way to order the information. Genre into a common language, so the music and movie starts to look style in the heart, trying to understand the nature of form rather than the message. And the lack of a message causes a lack of aftertaste for us, the listeners, the experience was often reduced to simply recall or forecasting tides from the style of musical language. Without stopping to discuss the details of tangential.
2011. Can music have a message anymore? Eno thinks so, and ‘Drum Between the Bells’ is behind the call, zero years old and he tells us to material and expressive log-off and run around. Revelation Eno is: lyrics of poetry we have, they should leave a meme pop battered ego, power, or wealth. They must aspire to directness of a haiku, and discuss the revelations as small as peas clickering to commuter traffic. They have called for the creation of freedom for our brilliant young people! Politics, time and data range of this devotional album. Rick Holland gave words to Eno’s voice.
Sound field is a summary of many aspects of Eno’s output – evolving ambient textures, brittle plastic funk, arpeggi plucked melodic, anthemic faux-orchestra, inverted and time-shifted reproduction. Most of the exploration effort to lock the primary key, or a single tone drones, varying the rhythm to refract light differently on smooth surfaces. This work has distilled the essence d’Eno, as we do not believe we’ve enjoyed so many years. It feels like a work born of many years of corruption, left many false starts, the work was cut, re-cut, re-created, re-think. It was pin sharp, like a cold rain, or maybe a new typeface. It was like a dream once and up-in-your-grill HyperReal. A bewitching and provocative call to arms for us all.
